Cairo Metro Line 4

Project Overview:

Cairo Metro Line 4 is a significant infrastructure project, representing the third line connecting Cairo and Giza governorates and the first to link them with 6th of October City. This line will serve densely populated areas such as Haram, Faisal, Omraneya, Giza, Nasr City, Al-Azhar University, and New Cairo, significantly benefiting both residents and tourists. As a vital addition to Egypt’s metro network, Line 4 reflects the government’s focus on infrastructure development and connecting new cities to Cairo.

Line 4 employs a unique construction method, utilizing two separate tunnels—one for each direction—excavated by six tunnel boring machines. These machines have an internal diameter of 5.8 meters and an external diameter of 6.4 meters. The machines are deployed in a carefully planned sequence, based on engineering designs, to ensure the safety of surrounding facilities and buildings. The two tunnels will generally run parallel, with some sections where one tunnel is positioned above the other due to design and implementation requirements. located on the site.

The total length of Line 4 is 42 km, with 38 stations planned. The project is being implemented in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (Hadayek El Ashgar to Fustat): 19 km, 17 stations.
  • Phase 2 (Fustat to New Cairo): 23 km, 21 stations.

ECPC’s Scope of Work:

Building on over 35 years of experience as the sole supplier of metro tunnel segments in Egypt, ECPC continues to be a key supplier for Line 4. ECPC’s scope includes providing a total of 40,764 precast segments (6,794 rings with a diameter of 6,400mm). These segments are being supplied to the following contractors:

  • Hassan Allam Construction: 18,408 precast segments (3,068 rings with a diameter of 6,400mm).
  • Concord For Engineering & Contracting: 22,356 precast segments (3,726 rings with a diameter of 6,400mm).

Phase 1 begins west of the ring road on the border of 6th of October City, passing by the Great Egyptian Museum station, the Shooting Club station, and Haram Street, before reaching Giza station (an interchange with Line 2). Line 4 will also intersect with Line 1 at King Saleh station and extend to Fustat, creating connections between Cairo Governorate, Giza, and 6th of October City.
